    • Payments and Currency: The US Dollar is standard and most places accept major cards and tap payments. Small bills are useful for markets, tipping, and quick purchases.
    • Weather Considerations: Chicago’s climate shifts dramatically by season. Winters are very cold with wind and snow, so warm layers, boots, and gloves make sightseeing more comfortable. Summers are warm and humid, so sunscreen, water, and light clothing help. Spring and fall are mild but can change quickly, so layers are ideal.
    • Weather and Transportation Alerts: Weather can impact transit schedules and outdoor plans. Checking local forecasts and transit updates helps avoid delays.

Chicago is vibrant and welcoming, and most areas popular with visitors are safe and active. Use licensed taxis or rideshare for late night transportation and avoid walking alone in unfamiliar areas.

    • Transit and Walking Safety: Public transit, rideshare, and downtown streets are active and well used. Avoid empty train stations late at night, wait near other passengers, and choose well lit routes when walking.
    • Outdoor Exploration: Chicago’s lakefront trails and waterfront parks are beautiful and worth exploring. Avoid isolated areas after dark, especially during colder months when foot traffic is lower.
    • Weather and Seasonal Conditions: Winter conditions can make sidewalks icy and visibility low. Wear proper footwear, watch for slick surfaces, and check local forecasts for snow or extreme cold warnings. In summer, heat and humidity can be high so water and sunscreen help.
    • Secure Valuables: Use hotel safes for passports, jewelry, and extra cash. Keep phones and bags close when sightseeing, shopping, or using public transit.
    • Sporting and Event Crowds: Large events such as festivals, parades, and sports games bring big crowds. Plan transportation in advance and keep wallets and phones secured in busy environments.
